JUST FAITH - ECUMENICAL CLASS TO BE OFFERED THIS FALL

Beginning on Tues., Sept. 21, the Methodists, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians will begin a class called “Just Faith”. The class will then meet weekly for the following 30 weeks (with breaks for holidays). Please consider joining this class! If you have questions about this life-changing opportunity, you can ask the following alumni: Rick and Jeri Holcomb, Ruth Anne Uggen, and Leslie Schultz.

YOUNG ADULTS CLASS

If you are interested in a Young Adults Class, please contact Daniel Malseed at youthdirector@gulllakeumc.org

NEEDED!!!!

We are in desperate need of people to train as sound techs for Sunday services.  Many of our techs have left for college or moved on.  It's not rocket science to run the board.   I will train you.   Please contact me at 671-5104. John Kuch

 CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your own faith and in making the decision to become an active member of the Gull Lake United Methodist Church. When you make a decision to join the church it should be because you believe in Jesus and want to follow in the way that he has taught us.      In Confirmation class time, we will be discussing our own faith, the United Methodist religion, and what it really means to be a Christian and follow Jesus. We will also be taking some field trips to different churches.
We are inviting 7th, 8th, and 9th graders as well as those in high school who have not been confirmed previously to participating in confirmation class this year.If you are interested, please contact  Daniel Malseed, Director of youth Discipleship.

Calling all Acolytes - New and Experienced

If you are in the 3rd grade or higher and would like to be involved in the Sunday Church service , we would love to have you! We will be having a very short training class for ALL acolytes. It will be right after the 11:00 service on Sept.19th.  Pastor Mona will be there to help guide us in all the details in how you can be a special part of the church service. It will be very helpful for all the acolytes( even if you've done it 100 times) to be there. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at home (623-8554).Blessing, Sandra Smith

 LOOKING AHEAD -

The 9th Annual Gull Lake CommUNITY Prayer Breakfast will be held at the Sherman Lake YMCA on September 16 from 7:25 - 9:00.  Co-chairs this year will be Doug and Sue Worgess.  Ticket information will be available soon.

SERVICES AT BORGESS GARDENS NURSING HOME

Members of GLUMC lead a devotional service at the Borgess Gardens nursing home on Gull Road at 2:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month. We sing several hymns, pray together, and the leader gives a brief talk (5 – 10 minutes) on a scripture or topic. Normally 8 – 12 residents attend this service. As a resource to help with the music/hymns at the service the church has a 3-CD set with voices and accompaniment for “100 Best Loved Hymns.” The residents really appreciate this service, and the leaders also get a blessing from their participation as well.

If you would like to lead one of these services this Fall or Winter, talk with Alice Jennings or Charles Bearden. We will orient you to this process and be there to help you with the service.

FALL SMALL GROUPS ARE FORMING NOW!

Sign Up at the table in the fellowship area.

We will join together for Bible study, fellowship, and discussion.  It’s a great way to read the Bible together, get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with others in our church family and grow in our discipleship.  If you haven’t tried a group in the past, please prayerfully consider your involvement this time.  It will be a very positive experience.

Groups will begin meeting the week of October 3 and continue for 6 weeks.  Groups are available on various days of the week and times.  Pick one that is at a convenient time and location for you!

Walk to Bethlehem Final Count
The 27th of September we started a 12-week journey of 6,594 miles to Bethlehem by Christmas.  By week 10, we had already exceeded our goal and the final total miles walked by GLUMC were over 8,500! Great job everyone. We have a number of members who must have worn down their shoes with the number of miles they walked. I hope that everyone enjoyed the journey. To all of  you who read the devotions and prayed for those walking, thank you, too. Keep wearing those pedometers and walking as I am planning on another walk after Easter.

SOUND TECHS NEEDED
We presently have a shortage of sound techs to help out with our church services.  We especially need techs for the 11:00am services.  If you are interested in being trained to run the sound board please contact me.
John Kuch, 671-5104, jpkuch@tds.net

The Soup Supper project has been successful as a result of the efforts of many people. We've become more efficient over the last couple months and, in an effort to streamline the process, the sign-up sheet has changed. Crew Leaders have been added for both days. This person is needed, particularly on Wednesdays, to assure that someone is minding the soup. Procedure lists have been written so that anyone can easily fill that role. Hopefully no one will have the burden of working for too many hours at a time. As we work through the process, if there are suggestions observations you wish to make, please contact Lynn Alberding (344-3851). Thank you for the support so many of you have provided.

CPR Class Monday Feb 8th 6-9pm

If a family member or friend experienced a sudden cardiac arrest, would you be able to provide CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)? According to the American Heart Association:
·         Between 75 to 80 percent of all out-of-hospitals, cardiac arrests occur at home.
·         Cardiac arrest can occur from an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation, or because of electrocution or drowning.
·         A victim’s chance of survival can double if there is effective bystander CPR provided immediately after the cardiac arrest.
·         CPR helps maintain the vital blood flow to the brain and the heart until advanced medical care can be provided.
·         Sudden cardiac arrest does not have to result in death. Lives can be saved if more people know CPR.

GLUMC is offering a class on adult, child, & infant CPR/choking as well as the use of our AED (automated external defibrillator). Use the sign-up form in today's bulletin to register for the class.

YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER TO ENABLE THE INSTRUCTOR TO COME WITH ADEQUATE SUPPLIES TO TEACH THE CLASS!
